Graveyard Rice Krispie Treats

Graveyard Rice Krispy Treats

Graveyard Rice Krispie treats are one of our Halloween traditions we do every year. I think you can find a Rice Krispy treat for pretty much every holiday. For halloween I’ve seen rice krispy brain cupcakes, pumpkins and monsters. I thought I would add to the creepy mix and make graveyards. I can see why Rice Krispies are so versatile you can easily mold them into whatever shape you want. The standard flat rectangular shape works great for me because they make the perfect graveyard.

I found tombstone sprinkles at Walmart, and different color bags of Sweet Tooth Fairies meltables from Michaels (they periodically go on sale). I also have eyes (someone always also wants to make monsters), candy corn (can you have a Halloween party with out candy corn), chocolate, other fun halloween sprinkles and marshmallows for the spider web!

Graveyard Rice Krispie Treats

I make a 9x 13 tray of Homemade Rice Krispies and cut them into rectangles. The toppings are set out so the kids can reach them. I help them use the microwave for the meltables, crush up dirt (oreos and graham crackers), and melt marshmallows for the spider web. I love having my kids friends over to make these because most kids like Rice Krispies and love decorating a dessert. It’s an easy Halloween party idea. Pair this with painting pumpkins and you have a whole afternoon ready to play.

Spider Web

The spider web is the messiest part but in my opinion the best part! It really makes the graveyard look spooky and it’s fun to have your hands sticky for a couple of minutes. Melting marshmallows can be tricky because they can get so big and even explode. If you microwave them too long the marshmallows can also get hard. I recommend microwaving marshmallows in short bursts like 15-20 seconds. You want the marshmallows to be soft enough to pull into a string like consistency. You take your clean fingers and put them in the warm melted marshmallows. Then you pull apart your fingers (if you want a greater width you will have to use both hands) and pull them on top of the graveyards. In joy the fun sticky mess.

5) Melt some marshmallows. Marshmallows expand in the microwave so make sure they microwaved in short spurts. (15-20 seconds). Carefully (make sure it's not too hot to touch) put your fingers in the marshmallows and stretch the cobwebs over the rice krispies. The marshmallows make a fun spider web effect.
